The 2022 Chevrolet Camaro isn't just a nostalgic piece of Americana; it's also an excellent sports vehicle. With nimble handling, two body designs, and a variety of trims and powertrains, the Camaro deserves to be mentioned among the greatest performance-to-price ratios on the market.
Chevrolet offers a variety of Camaro grades, ranging from LS through LT, SS, and ZL1. From the texture of the grille to the shape of the taillights, they all share a body with Coke-bottle curves and retro-inspired design cues. The interior features a few of these inspirations, but is predominantly black and gray with a touchscreen to add some color.
Chevrolet complements the Camaro's dark appearance with acceleration and handling that range from swift and agile to savagely quick and taut. With the base 275-hp turbo-4, it can reach 60 mph in as little as 5.4 seconds, accompanied by the sounds of a hard-working economy car; with the GOAT supercharged V-8, it achieves electric-car-like 0-60 mph runs in 3.5 seconds, and when equipped with the 1LE track package, it sticks to the track (or the road) with the tenacity of a rental-apartment window sticker.
The Camaro is a hellhole of fun, but it is only suitable for two people, and those passengers should have shorter torsos if they choose to wear caps or helmets. The rear seat and trunk are merely functional sketches. The safety roster lacks emergency braking systems. In some ways, the Camaro is still a car from the 1960s, yet its crash-test results are respectable.

The $26,195 1LS boasts cloth upholstery, 18-inch wheels, a 7.0-inch touchscreen, and Apple CarPlay/Android Auto wireless connectivity. Purchase the $43,690 Camaro 2SS with the $7,000 1LE package for a track-ready vehicle with Bose nine-speaker audio and an eight-inch touchscreen. The ZL1 costs a minimum of $65,895.
The newest iteration of the Camaro is its best, mostly because its screaming V-8 exhaust now has a world-class base that gives it sports-car handling to match its vigor. Chevy equips mid-range Camaros with a 335-hp, 3.6-liter V-6, and its 284 lb-ft of torque plays a more muscle-car-like soundtrack on the way to 60 mph in 5.0 seconds, whether equipped with a manual transmission or a high-tech 10-speed automatic.
Camaro LT1 and Camaro SS coupes and convertibles are equipped with a 455-horsepower, 6.2-liter V-8 engine that generates 455 lb-ft of torque. It can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 4.0 seconds while emitting a characteristic 1960s sound. The ZL1 supercharges the engine to produce 650 horsepower and 650 lb-ft of torque, along with a moderate amount of supercharger whining that is ignored as the vehicle accelerates to 60 miles per hour in 3.5 seconds and through the quarter-mile in 11.4 seconds.

Not to worry about handling: the Camaro's chassis features Cadillac-derived double-pivot control arms and struts that surpass even that pedigree to generate cornering grip with a powerful yet precise feel. The vehicle's electric-assist power steering has a terrific feel, and the optional magnetic dampers balance ride quality and agility.
As tire size increases and sidewall size decreases, things become stiffer; at the top of the spectrum, the ride is jiggly and jarring. With the 1LE package, the Camaro becomes a genuine track star, due to a firmer suspension, an electronic limited-slip differential, 6-piston front and 4-piston rear Brembo brakes, and dual-mode exhaust.
The only place to sit in the rear-wheel-drive performance icon is the Camaro's exceptional driver seat. Front passengers don't even have power adjustments; rear passengers don't even get room. Points deducted for the incredibly cramped rear seat and short trunk. Although the cloth-upholstered Camaro cockpit features a comfortable, power-adjustable driver seat, the manual passenger seat shares a limited view of the exterior environment. The easiest way to see what's outside the Camaro's tiny greenhouse from a low seating position is to exit it.
The Camaro can be equipped with heated and cooled Recaro bucket seats, but tall drivers should test the accommodations; at least two of our drivers have difficulty sitting in the Camaro while wearing a racing helmet.
The Camaro performs well in crash tests, but it loses points due to its poor rear visibility and absence of automatic emergency braking. On the Camaro, blind-spot monitors and rear parking sensors are optional and only available on 3LT and higher grades. No automatic emergency braking or adaptive cruise control are available. Overall, the NHTSA awards the Camaro coupe five stars. It receives "Good" crash-test ratings from the IIHS, with the exception of the roof strength, which receives a "Acceptable" rating.
When mated with an automatic transmission, the Camaro's turbo-4 engine achieves EPA ratings of 22 city, 30 highway, and 25 combined mpg. We label this a 4 It has a 6-speed manual transmission and is rated at 19/29/22 mpg.
V-6 Camaros are rated at 18/29/22 mpg with an automatic transmission and 16/26/20 mpg with a manual. However, the majority of Camaro customers will want V-8s, which are far less fuel-efficient. EPA ratings for the basic V-8 with an automatic transmission are 16/26/20 mpg; with a manual transmission, it's 16/24/19 mpg. Supercharged V-8 engines lower the range to 14/20/16 mpg with a manual transmission and 13/21/16 mpg with an automated transmission.
