The Ford Mustang, one of the most popular sports vehicles in the world, has been manufactured since 1964 and has sold millions of units. In contrast to its predecessors' solid rear axles, the sixth-generation S550 Mustang went on sale for the 2015 model year with completely independent suspension. The Mustang is primarily concerned with giving pony car thrills at an affordable price. The 2021 Mustang is available as a coupe or convertible, with the Shelby moniker designating the most powerful vehicle. We anticipate no significant modifications for 2022; any upgrades will likely be cosmetic, such as a new paint color, interior trims, or decal packages.

There's a 2022 Ford Mustang for nearly every lifestyle and personality, whether it's utilized for top-down drives on the Sunset Strip or track time at Lime Rock. It is extensively customizable because to its numerous cosmetic packages, major performance-enhancing upgrades, and coupe or convertible body variants. Power is provided by a potent turbo four or a 5.0-liter V-8; both engines drive the rear wheels via an engaging manual transmission or a fantastic 10-speed automatic. Ford offers a variety of options to enhance the driving experience, culminating in the track-focused Mach 1. Even the most aggressive Mustang (with the exception of the 760-horsepower Shelby GT500) can be driven daily, and it offers a roomier rear seat and greater visibility than the Chevrolet Camaro. We believe the Mustang is best appreciated with its resonant 5.0-liter V-8 engine, which needs the GT or Mach 1 variant. The latter boasts 20 more horsepower (480 total) than the standard GT models and is more enjoyable to drive thanks to performance equipment from the Shelby GT500. Unfortunately, this raises its base price to almost $54,000, therefore we recommend the standard GT coupe. Keeping the normal manual transmission, we would opt for the GT Performance option, which adds enhanced Brembo front brakes, a limited-slip differential, stickier summer tires, and more.

Don't be deceived by its cylinder count; the basic turbocharged EcoBoost four-cylinder has more power than the V-8 Mustangs of yesteryear. Similarly, the optional High-Performance package includes a more melodious and fast EcoBoost engine derived from the discontinued Ford Focus RS. The optional EcoBoost Handling package provides the four-cylinder coupe with racing readiness. The GT variants are powered by a 450-horsepower V-8 with an active exhaust system that emits a deafening boom. Both of these potent engines are paired with either a standard six-speed manual transmission or an optional 10-speed automatic transmission that makes the Mustang faster than ever. With both the track-focused Performance Pack Level 2 (PPL2) and the spectacular Bullitt model retired, the reborn Mach 1 model offers the strongest performance credentials. 

With a 470-horsepower V-8 and chassis components common with Shelby Mustangs, it can terrorize racetracks and do errands, but the Mach 1 we rode exhibited an exhausting inclination to tramline. Nevertheless, even with less potent engines, the Mustang's updated chassis provides a comfortable and controlled driving experience. In Comfort mode, the electrically assisted steering is appropriately light, yet in the other two modes, it is appropriately weighted. We found the Mustang's brake pedal to be sensitive in stop-and-go traffic, but it's simpler to apply smoothly at greater speeds.

The Mustang with the turbocharged four-cylinder and 10-speed automatic transmission is the most fuel-efficient, with EPA ratings of 21 mpg in the city and 32 mpg on the highway. Mustangs with a V-8 engine are rated at 15 mpg in the city and 24 mpg on the highway. The four-cylinder engine with the manual transmission earned 24 mpg in our testing, 7 mpg less than its EPA rating. The Mustang's interior is better than ever, with a design that harkens back to the original Mustangs while remaining totally functional and comfortable. Although it is offered with premium amenities like as heated and cooled front seats, its subpar plastics and Headless Horseman–only cramped rear seat are drawbacks. The Mustang coupe has a trunk size of 13.5 cubic feet, with second-row seats that fold into the cabin to increase cargo room. Mustang convertible cargo space is reduced to 11.4 cubic feet by the folding top mechanism, and the second-row seats are fixed.

Mustang front-row headroom measures 37.6 inches, which is slightly less than the Toyota Supra's 38.3 inches. The Mustang offers more front-row legroom than the Supra, with 45.1 inches compared to 42.2 inches. In addition, the Mustang offers rear seats with theoretical capacity for four passengers, whilst the Supra has only two seats. However, the Mustang's rear seats are somewhat cramped, with only 34.8 inches of headroom and 29.0 inches of legroom.

Ford's optional Sync 3 infotainment system sports a streamlined appearance and a straightforward user interface. Even if it's not as snappy or robust as some competitors, it comes with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a powerful sound. Available on the Mustang is a Wi-Fi hotspot. Standard equipment includes Ford Sync Connect, which allows owners to control and monitor their vehicle via a smartphone app.

On the 2021 Mustang, entry-level EcoBoost and GT models have a 4.2-inch infotainment display, while Premium, Mach 1, and GT500 models have an 8-inch touchscreen. This larger display features Ford's Sync 3 user interface, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto; navigation is an available addition. Every Mustang model includes two USB ports. Optional on Premium trim versions and standard on the Mach 1 and GT500 is a 12.0-inch digital instrument cluster display. The standard audio system consists of six speakers, while Premium variants feature either a nine- or twelve-speaker Bang & Olufsen premium audio system.

The Mustang is offered with more driver-assistance technology than any competing pony car, allowing you to travel faster while feeling safer. So operate driver assistance systems, correct?
