2023 Maserati MC20 Cielo Review, Specs, Price
The outward design of the Maserati MC20 Cielo sports car is a masterpiece. When its retractable glass roof is retracted, the Cielo—"Cielo" is Italian for "sky"—grabs even more attention than the already remarkable MC20. By pressing a button, the electrochromic glass can be changed from transparent to opaque even when the roof is up. The opening and closing speed is 12 seconds, and the Cielo's distinctive shape is accentuated by its pronounced buttresses when the roof is retracted.
The remainder of the vehicle is identical to the standard MC20, including the slim LED headlamps and low front grille. Even more visual drama is provided by the butterfly doors that Maserati claims facilitate entry and exit. At the rear are dual exhaust outlets and lengthy clusters of taillights. The premiere color of the Maserati MC20 Cielo is a three-layer metallic color called Acquamarina. Other possible colors are Rosso Vincente (red), Grigio Mistero, Grigio Incognito, Giallo Genio (yellow), Bianco Audace (white), and Blu Infinito.
The Maserati MC20 Cielo's proportions are comparable to those of the coupe. The Cielo has a length of 183.8 inches, a width of 85.7 inches (including the side mirrors), and a height of 48.2 inches. The length of the wheelbase is 106.3 inches. Maserati is particularly proud of the fact that the Cielo weighs only 143 pounds more than the coupe, despite the modifications necessary to allow the retractable roof. We know that the coupe weighs approximately 3,300 lbs, so the Cielo manages to weigh less than 3,500 lbs.

The engine of the Maserati MC20 Cielo is shared with the standard MC20. Recently, the Italian manufacturer said that it would not share this distinctive engine with other automakers, instead retaining it for its performance-oriented vehicles. The 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged V6 engine in the Nettuno provides 621 horsepower and 538 lb-ft of torque. This power is transmitted to the rear wheels via an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, allowing for a 0-62 mph sprint in just over three seconds and a top speed of just over 200 mph. The time between 0-60 mph might be as low as 2.7 seconds.
The Cielo's structural integrity has not been compromised despite sharing its carbon-fiber body with the standard MC20. There are five dynamic driving modes available for customization: wet, GT, sport, corsa, and ESC off. For what it's worth, Maserati estimates that the MC20 Cielo will consume 11.5 liters per 100 kilometers based on the WLTP standard. However, in the supercar market, fuel economy statistics are not particularly noteworthy. This equates to somewhat more than 20 mpg; however, EPA figures are expected to be lower when published.
With the same power and roughly the same weight as the coupe, the MC20 Cielo performs similarly to the coupe in terms of handling. The MC20 coupe is a tremendously entertaining dance partner on both public roads and private tracks, which is a very good thing. The distinction is in how the Cielo interacts with the outer world, most notably the advanced and potent V6 engine's thunderous exhaust tone.
Cycling through the transmission's eight ratios, whether upshifting when speeding out of a turn or downshifting when braking for the next one, evokes all the excitement you'd expect from an Italian supercar. The MC20 Cielo offers a wide range of dynamic behavior via its five driving modes, which are now accessed via a digital drive mode selector located between the seats. GT mode is optimal for everyday driving, while Sport is ideal for canyon runs, and Corsa is designed for track situations. Additionally, there is a "Wet" mode that softens gear transitions and enhances traction control. ESC Off, on the other hand, is essentially a Corsa with the traction and stability control systems disabled. Be cautious with that...
The MC20 Coupe and Cielo are equipped with carbon-ceramic brakes on our test vehicles. Although this system has ample stopping force, it lacked the gradual, easy-to-judge pedal modulation that we prefer.
The atmosphere is the most significant alteration to the interior of the Maserati MC20 Cielo. With the roof down, the interior of a coupe seems noticeably different. The ability to transform the smart glass roof from transparent to opaque is also a revolutionary feature.
The remainder of the inside is constructed from high-quality materials, and the exposed carbon fiber is attractive. There is less to distract from the driving experience because of the design's simplicity and lack of flash. The seats of the Maserati MC20 Cielo are available in a number of colors, including Blu, Nero, and Nero/Rosso. A carbon fiber interior package is available and comprises paddle shifters, door sills, and a cluster cap made from carbon fiber.
A Sonus Faber premium sound system with 12 speakers is an additional enticing option, but we prefer the V6 engine's roar. Standard features include an intelligent digital driver's display, an Alcantara-wrapped steering wheel, and a rotary drive mode selection. The cargo space of the Maserati MC20 Cielo cannot compete with that of the Quattroporte, but that will be the last thing on your mind when driving this beauty.
The brilliance of modern active suspension technology is that a single vehicle can provide both an ultra-stiff suspension setting for track duty and remarkably soft ride quality for real-world potholes and bumps. The Maserati MC20 Cielo exemplifies this versatility.
Sicily's roadways ranged from clean, high-speed motorways to decrepit, potholed, single-lane pavement winding between stone walls and dense vegetation. The MC20 Cielo handled the majority of the terrain without difficulty, but the low ride height of the sports car makes crossing poor-quality tarmac difficult. A front lift device is highly suggested for anyone negotiating speed bumps and driveway transitions, as it reduces tension.
We anticipated the MC20 Cielo to have a bit more wind and road noise than the coupe. However, Maserati paid special attention to the quality of the roof's seal when it was raised. The manufacturer was successful in ensuring that the cabin temperature control and ambient noise were as comfortable as possible. The MC20 Cielo will satisfy sports car purchasers in search of open-air pleasure with the top down and closed-coupe comfort with the top up.
