The 2023 Lamborghini Urus is a supercar with an SUV body, not just an exotic SUV with a supercar logo. This is evidenced not only by its twin-turbo 4.0-liter V-8 that produces 657 horsepower but also by its jaw-dropping performance on renowned racetracks; the new Performante variant shattered the Pikes Peak SUV record, for example. This newly launched variation demonstrates Lamborghini's dedication to ensuring that the Urus lives up to the brand's unique pedigree. This high-riding Lambo is the only vehicle in the showroom capable of towing a trailer and transporting more than two (presumably very wealthy) passengers when it's not displaying its extravagant bodywork or outrunning practically every other vehicle on the road. There is currently no other SUV comparable to the 2023 Urus. However, its price of $250,000 makes it out of reach for most of us poor mortals, and its interior isn't as luxurious as it should be for such a high price.
The performance of the Urus improves for the 2023 model year with the introduction of the S and Performante trims; horsepower increases by 16 to 657. The Performante has a different suspension than the standard S, using steel springs rather than air springs, and a 0.8-inch lower ride height. The Performante is also available with 23-inch wheels fitted with Pirelli P Zero Trofeo R tires measuring 285/40R-22 up front and 325/235R-22 out back. While it still has a large curb weight of 5200 pounds, Lamborghini claims that the Performante is lighter than the Urus S due to the installation of carbon-fiber body panels and the elimination of sound-deadening components, among other weight-reduction efforts. The Performante receives reworked front and rear ends for the 2023 model year, as well as a new fixed spoiler above the liftgate, along with special seats and interior décor. Pricing and Selection: $230,000 for the S (est). Performant compensation of $264,671
We could save almost $35,000 if we opted for the regular Urus S, but we would sacrifice the vehicle's maximum performance. This is why we want the new Performante for 2023, which boasts a lower suspension with stiffer steel springs and a variety of weight-reduction techniques. Additionally, we would choose the larger 23-inch wheels with the racetrack-ready Pirelli P Zero Trofeo R tires. Again, the aim is maximum performance.
Engine, Transmission, and Performance: All 2023 Urus variants are powered by a 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V-8 producing 657 horsepower. When idle, the engine emits a loud burble, but at full power, it screams. Permanent all-wheel drive and an eight-speed automatic transmission cooperate with all that power to offer excellent acceleration. In our tests, the Urus accelerated to 60 mph in 3.1 seconds and tore through the quarter-mile at 121 mph in 11.3 seconds.
Lamborghini estimates a top speed of 190 mph. Even from behind the wheel, the Urus feels dynamic, with fast steering and stable high-speed cornering. With air springs at all four corners, the Urus offers adjustable ride heights dependent on its various drive modes. Standard carbon-ceramic brakes guarantee that the Urus stops as well as it goes, with a stopping distance of 149 feet at 70 mph. The new Performante model is the solution for drivers who seek an even more sporty Urus. It reportedly sits 0.8 inches lower and weighs 104 pounds less than the normal model. It’s available with 23-inch wheels and super-sticky Pirelli P Zero Trofeo R tires. In addition, only the Performante sports a steel-spring suspension and a center differential that transfers more torque to the rear than usual.
In addition, the ultra-Urus features a new rally mode designed for unpaved surfaces. The prototype drive of the '23 Urus Performante was a lot of fun, but we doubt many owners will actually abuse their six-figure SUV on rocky off-road courses. On a racetrack, we are pleased to report that the Performante's numerous enhancements pay off with a more responsive powertrain, better steering feedback, and a stiffer ride.
2023 Lamborghini Urus Review, Specs, Price
The Urus Performante's 4.0-liter twin-turbo V-8 engine produces 15 more horsepower and the same torque as the standard Urus engine. The fact that it's three-tenths of a second quicker to 60 mph and 1.3 seconds quicker to 124 mph than the standard Urus has more to do with its slight weight reduction, increased traction, quicker and more fluid gearshifts, and enhanced aerodynamics.
The objective of the Urus Performante is not how much faster it is in a straight line than the standard Urus, but rather how much quicker it goes around curves. Rouven Mohr, chief technology officer of Lamborghini, stated, "The goal was to create the best driver's car in the segment." "This is how the automobile incorporates the driver into the driving experience." Therefore, the majority of the Urus Performante's engineering development expenses were allocated to the chassis. The first step was to replace the standard Urus' height-adjustable air suspension with steel springs and magnetorheological shocks, whose compression and rebound rates could be adjusted depending on the selected drive mode.
Fuel Efficiency and Real-World MPG: Those wealthy enough to afford an Urus probably don't care about fuel economy, but the heaviest Lamborghini vehicle really likes to drink. The EPA expects that the 657-hp Urus will achieve 14 city mpg and 19 highway mpg. Although we have not tested its real-world mpg on our 75 mph highway fuel economy route, its mileage will vary depending on driving behavior. To learn more about the Urus's fuel efficiency, please visit the EPA's website.
Interior, Comfort, and Cargo: The interior features a dynamic cabin that is typically Lamborghini. Jet-fighter design hints abound, with the start button concealed beneath a red flip cover and the shifter looking like a jet's throttle. To the left of the shifter are levers that regulate the drive modes and provide customized performance settings. There is plenty of faux-suede and carbon-fiber trim, while the infotainment system and reconfigurable gauges are straight out of an Audi. The back seat has adequate passenger capacity and can hold between two and three passengers, depending on which seating configuration is selected. Utilizable door pockets and a container behind the floating center stack highlight the interior compartmentalization. The cargo compartment of the Urus can hold up to 22 cubic feet of items, but this decreases by 2 cubic feet when the optional rear bucket seats are installed.
Infotainment and Connectivity: Each Urus is equipped with the most advanced connectivity and infotainment technologies available. In addition to a fully digital instrument cluster, the center stack features two touchscreens with controls for the climate system, audio, and more. The screens offer clear visuals and huge icons, but they are not as user-friendly as conventional knobs and buttons.
The multimedia software is essentially a Lamborghini-skinned version of Audi's MMI cabin technology, making it user-friendly and compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Standard rear seating consists of a three-across bench, but you can optionally order the Performante with two individual bucket seats, which also require improved bolstering.
Safety and Driver Support The Lambo SUV is equipped with a variety of basic and optional driver aid technologies, including a night-vision camera. Visit the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) websites for more information on the Urus' crash-test results. Key safety characteristics include: Adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go technology is standard. Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are standard. Available self-parking assistance
Guarantee and Service Coverage: Lamborghini provides only a three-year warranty with no mileage limit. Additionally, it does not provide complimentary planned maintenance. However, the Italian automaker offers extended warranties and maintenance plans for an additional fee. the three-year, unlimited-mileage limited warranty period. The warranty on the powertrain is for three years and unlimited miles. There are no complimentary maintenance services.
