It is typically tough to get enthused about an electric hatchback family hauler that isn't a performance model, such as the impending Ioniq 5 N, or isn't badged with a prominent brand. The RWD standard-range Ioniq 5 is equipped with a 125kW motor driving the rear wheels, producing 168 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque, and delivering a maximum range of 220 miles. The extended-range RWD variant has a class-leading range of 303 miles and 225 horsepower. The AWD Ioniq 5 with two electric motors (74 kW and 165 kW) provides a total output of 320 horsepower and a truck-like 446 pound-feet of torque for those who desire all-wheel grip and a great deal more enthusiasm.
The range of the AWD model is 266 miles. The shortcut buttons that run along the bottom of the infotainment screen are made of plastic that feels a little on the cheap side, but this is cleverly compensated for by other cool elements. All variants of the Ioniq 5 are equipped with a pair of 12.3-inch digital displays situated atop the dashboard, which is unsurprising given Hyundai's emphasis on technology.
