The broad Taycan family of large four-doors provides swift acceleration, controlled handling, and a swanky interior, provided you pay for Porsche's pricey upgrades. All Taycans utilize the front-axle disconnect technology debuted on GTS models last year. Additionally, Porsche modified some behind-the-scenes technology to increase the efficiency of these vehicles. Consequently, the GTS's EPA-estimated electric range increases from just over 200 miles to 246 miles. The Taycan family is around the size of a BMW 5-Series, however the inside is not nearly as large.
All models have LED headlights that resemble fangs. Sport Turismo versions have a long roof that somewhat enhances load carrying, while Cross Turismo models have a little chunkier appearance. The inside is clean and streamlined, if not opulent, unless you add extended leather upholstery and specific trim finishes.
The majority of models feature all-wheel drive, with power outputs ranging from 402 to 750 horsepower. The entry-level Taycan accelerates to 60 mph in 5.1 seconds in its base configuration. The 4S adds a second motor, which translates to all-wheel drive and significantly greater power for $108,000. No Taycan is basic with leather seats, smartphone projection, and 19-inch wheels. We would invest in upgraded chargers and a mobile charger port, as well as possibly overspend on paint and trim.
Featuring proportions reminiscent of the Panamera and 911-grade embellishments. Even after tasting its siblings, the Taycan steers a distinct route. The Taycan Turbo and Turbo S receive additional power and a hefty 93 kWh battery. The aforementioned battery can be fitted to the regular Taycan or 4S for slightly less than £5,000.
A four-door, four-seat body is placed over a skateboard chassis with Panamera-esque suspension and optional four-wheel steering. It is designed to fill the white space beneath the larger Panamera and Panamera Sport Turismo. It has a narrow roof and a wide hip.
It has a beautiful silhouette, more stretched 911 than shrunken Panamera. You can dress to the point of invisibility with dark blue paint and silver wheels, or yell fairly loudly with five-spoke wheels bordered by a body-colored rim (based by the Mission E concept), or "fan" wheels in carbon, body color, or gold measuring 21 inches in diameter. But don't take my word for it; continue to the configurator immediately and say goodbye to your day's productivity.
The driving position is nearly identical to that of the Porsche 911, but the inside is entirely redesigned. The only physical buttons are on the steering wheel and door panels. Inside, the screen reigns supreme: a sculptural, curved one behind the steering wheel, a standard rectangular 10.9-inch one in the center of the dash, an I-Pace-style portrait one where your right hand rests, and a completely useless (but thankfully optional) one above the glovebox in front of the passenger. The same passenger is fully capable of sliding their hand three inches to the left and using the central screen to manipulate the music or plug in an accessory.
Compared to a Model S, the number of gimmicks is limited, but that passenger screen and the submenu-controlled directional air vents are needless. What's wrong about aiming the vanes manually? But there is also familiarity. The Taycan's driving modes—Range, Normal, Sport, and Sport+—are controlled by a dial on the steering wheel. While the Taycan's interfaces and graphics are distinctive, anyone who has driven a Porsche will feel comfortable within an hour. As expected, the quality is amazing.
The trunk is comparable to that of a Volkswagen Golf (366 liters), and there is a small trunk as well (81 liters). While a six-footer can fit in the back, the rear seats are better suited for children or vertically challenged automotive journalists. Porsche, however, has cleverly created a compartment for your feet within the batteries located beneath the floor, which they refer to as the "foot garage." Infrequently, choose the panoramic roof, which provides additional headroom in the rear.
Standard on the My First Taycan is 321 horsepower. In its temporary overboost mode, output increases to a Jaguar I-Pace-equivalent 402 horsepower, enabling acceleration from 0 to 62 miles per hour in a claimed 5.4 seconds. Investing a portion of your MSRP savings with the Performance Battery Plus (just under £5,000) increases the battery capacity from 79 kWh to 93 kWh, hence increasing the advertised range from 220-268 miles to 253-301 miles. In the meantime, you get 375 horsepower under your right foot or a momentary 469 horsepower on overboost; however, Porsche claims the enhanced car is not faster because the battery is heavier.
At the opposite end of the price spectrum, the Turbo S produces a staggering 616 horsepower in regular running (750 bhp and 774 lb-ft in overboost). 0-62 mph occurs in 2.8 seconds, while the quarter-mile is completed in 10.8 seconds. Standard equipment includes carbon-ceramic brakes, bigger tires, and a range of 242 to 258 miles. Yes, you'll want the Turbo S more than any other Taycan, but in nearly all road-based circumstances, the Taycan and 4S with the large battery option are plenty.
When you locate the toggle switch behind the steering wheel and place it in the D position, the automobile emits a faint hum to indicate that it is alive. Squeeze the throttle to accelerate, accompanied by a sound I can only replicate by pursing my lips and generating a slight whistle while uttering. Want to turn up the artificial soundscape? To activate the "Porsche Electric Sport Sound" You will likely become bored after a week. At least it is optional, thus it is not required. Even when traffic and speed cameras conspire against you, the Taycan is effortless, silent, comfy, and doesn't feel as wide as it looks; in other words, it is a delight to drive.
