2024 Mazda CX-50 Review, Specs, Price
Sporty performance and a plethora of standard equipment support the 2024 Mazda CX-50's stunning appearance and upscale interior. Despite having more SUVs than ever before, Mazda still has enough of zoom-zoom remaining in its portfolio, as evidenced by the 2024 CX-50. This little crossover maintains the brand's reputation for exciting driving and nimble handling despite having a ruggedly attractive exterior and an almost luxurious interior. All models have all-wheel drive and a base 187-hp four-cylinder engine, but the optional 256-hp turbocharged four makes things more exciting. Due to its size, the CX-50 can compete with successful models like the Honda CR-V and the Volkswagen Tiguan, as well as the Mazda CX-5, which is a competitor from its own showroom. However, the CX-50 uses its skillful fusion of elegance and style to push its way up the compact SUV rankings.
There are not many significant improvements planned for the CX-50 in 2024, aside from some suspension and steering adjustments for improved handling. Starting with the mid-range Premium and higher, additional trims now come equipped with a wireless smartphone charging pad and a 12-speaker Bose sound as standard. Depending on the specification and extras, the 2024 Mazda CX-50 might cost anywhere from $31,675 to $44,675. Choose $31,675. $33,025 is preferred. $35,375 is the premium. $38,875. Premium Plus. Turbo is suggested at $39,375. $42,625 for the Meridian Edition. $42,675 for Turbo Premium. $44,675 for Turbo Premium Plus. Although the CX-50 comes in a wide range of trim levels, from extremely basic to incredibly opulent, we would advise choosing the Turbo variant. It includes a more potent four-cylinder turbocharged engine with 256 horsepower, increasing the towing capacity to 3500 pounds. Numerous appealing features are also included as standard, such as a 10.3-inch infotainment screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a panoramic sunroof, and leather upholstery with heated front seats.
One of the most capable small crossovers available is the CX-50. There is minimal body roll and the driver receives plenty of feedback from the crisp, well-weighted steering, which boosts confidence. The CX-50 has a lower center of gravity than most of its competitors since it is about 3 to 5 inches lower overall. This Mazda offers a delightful driving experience on winding roads even in its base form. The ride is firm, although Mazda's new suspension dampers for 2024 may make it a little softer. Only the most severe bumps are transferred into the interior of versions with the standard 17-inch wheels. On uneven or cracked pavement, the CX-50 may bounce and judder a little. The optional 20-inch rims exacerbate these characteristics.
Mazda's 2024 CX-50 comes with two engine options. A 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that generates 187 horsepower and 186 pound-feet of torque powers lower-tier S versions. A turbocharged version of this engine with 256 horsepower and 320 pound-feet of torque is available for higher Turbo models. All variants come equipped with all-wheel drive and a six-speed automatic transmission. The turbo is the main attraction, but the standard engine has plenty of power and feels more exciting than some competitors. It has a lot of midrange torque and can propel the CX-50 from 0 to 60 mph in less than 7 seconds. It does not run out of steam, even on steep grades, and makes highway passing simple. The transmission is well-mated to both power plants and delivers smooth and accurate shifts.

The CX-50 with the base four-cylinder engine is the most efficient. Although the optional turbo adds a lot of acceleration, it only reduces the model's rated 24 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway by 1 mpg each. The turbocharged CX-50 achieved 29 mpg on our highway fuel economy test route at 75 mph.
The CX-50 has two rows of seats that can accommodate five passengers, just like the CX-5 and CX-30 crossovers. The 50 has a little more truckish appearance than the smaller CX-30 thanks to its massive square dashboard vents, but generally, especially when it comes to the equipped Premium Plus trim, it feels elegantly sophisticated. Although the CX-5 has more headroom, the rear-seat capacity is below average for the class, despite the front seats being supportive and comfy. Pushbutton start, a partially digital gauge display, and a tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel are standard on all versions.
While the base CX-50 comes with a smaller 8.8-inch infotainment display, all other trims get a larger 10.3-inch screen; both versions run the latest version of the Mazda Connect interface and are controlled via a click wheel mounted on the center console. All models come with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, both with wireless connectivity. An eight-speaker stereo is standard but Premium and Premium Plus models come with a 12-speaker Bose stereo with SiriusXM satellite radio. A wireless phone charger is available, but only on the top Turbo Premium Plus.
A comprehensive set of driver-assistance systems, such as adaptive cruise control and lane-keeping aid, are standard on the CX-50. Additional amenities including a 360-degree exterior camera system and automated high-beam headlamps are optional. Visit the websites of the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to learn more about the CX-50's crash-test results. Important safety features consist of: automatic emergency braking that is standard. standard lane-keeping assistance and lane-departure warning. Adaptive cruise control is standard.
Compared to Mazda, Kia and Hyundai both provide higher warranty coverage, while several other automakers in this market offer free maintenance. 36,000 miles or three years are covered by the limited warranty. The powertrain warranty is valid for 60,000 miles or five years. No free planned maintenance.
